Veridonia

A feed run by people, not an algorithm

Veridonia is a social app where people write posts, share and discuss news and links. No algorithm or ranking formula picks what to show in the feed. Everything that gets in is decided by people like you. This is what that looks like:

Why a like button wasn’t enough

We wanted three things a simple upvote can’t give you. Each one is why the vote you just watched is built the way it is.

Less noise, more signal

On a typical upvote feed, the top is whatever got piled on fastest — usually by the loudest or the best-organized. Here every post had to clear a real vote by your community’s own members, so the feed is what members of your community judged worth reading, not what won a popularity race.

Upvotes are free and anonymous, so they cost no one anything to throw around. Here a vote moves the voter’s own standing — up when it matches the community, down when it doesn’t — so the people deciding what you see actually have something on the line.

On an open feed, a brigade or a pile of bots can cheaply push almost anything to the top. Here you can’t choose what to vote on — panels are drawn at random — and influence has to be earned slowly, which makes swarming the feed far more expensive to pull off.
